Velvet hemp chenille shirt – production details, threads, fabrics

The short pile chenille produces a soft, organic and velvet touch. The shirt is designed and produced in a jacquard fabric made of hemp and cotton chenille threads. The pattern of this fabric produces a fine ribbed velvety texture.

Velvet chenille and rough hemp shirt: finishing details

The sleeves of this shirt are long on a raglan pattern, meaning with a diagonal seam. The two welt pockets are lined with light cotton fabric. Instead of buttons, the shirt is designed for removable brass cufflinks in a hexagonal shape. This garment can be both worn in warm or cold seasons because of the thermoregulating properties of hemp fibers.

In addition to the natural fiber shades, Prototipo Studio’s corduroy shirt can also be ordered in the two color variants mud green and anthracite gray.
The green color possesses hues reminiscent of both ochre and beige. This green pigment is obtained from the licorice supply chain grown in Southern Italy. The gray color tending to black, on the other hand, is obtained from biochar.

The chenille shirt and hexagonal brass cufflinks: a jeweled accessory

The cufflinks that complete the shirt were designed and produced as a piece of jewelry. Each cufflink features a double hexagon of 5 mm thickness with a chain of two rings.

Prototipo Studio and the brass cufflinks

The cufflinks are designed by Prototipo Studio and made exclusively by a laboratory based in the Italian region of Marche. Brass is a difficult-to-corrosion material that allows for greater sustainability. Ductility and malleability are two characteristics of this alloy. The two-ring chain that binds the two hexagons is also made of brass, with no paint added in the finishing process.

The use of water in the dyeing process followed by Prototipo Studio is less than in traditional industrial dyeing methods. All pigments chosen by Prototipo Studio are sourced in Italy, for a supply chain that moves the ‘Made in Italy’ into a higher quality code, namely ‘Made and Sourced in Italy’.
