Velvet chenille bomber jacket, in hemp and cotton, mud green color – details of production, threads, fabrics

A unique and non-repeatable piece, this bomber jacket is made of three different types of fabric: a plain chenille velvet, a chenille corduroy velvet, and a knitted textile, also corduroy, made from a cotton chenille yarn. The two shuttles or canvases of velvet have a hemp warp, and in weft an alternation of hemp and chenille yarn. All fabrics are conceived, designed and commissioned by Prototipo Studio, made exclusively in Italy, without the inclusion of any synthetic component.

Bomber jacket in velvet chenille and chenille knitwear: details

The Bomber is tailored with sartorial skill in a workshop in Milan. The body and wide collar feature horizontally arranged chenille velvet; the sleeves feature plain velvet, while the cuffs and lapels feature chenille knit details. The interior of the jacket is lined in hemp drill. Two welt pockets open at the hips above the knitted detail.

Prototipo Studio’s hemp bomber jacket in natural coloring: licorice extract

The green color is given by a natural pigment dye extracted from licorice root from Calabria region, in Southern Italy. All pigments chosen by Prototipo Studio are sourced in Italy, to raise the quality level of manufacturing: not only ‘Made in Italy’, but also ‘Made and Sourced in Italy’.

The Bomber and brass cufflinks by Prototipo Studio

The cufflinks are conceived, designed by Prototipo Studio and produced by a laboratory in the Marche region, Italy. The shape of the hexagon is a hallmark for the brand, an inspiration for the jeweled button – or cufflink – which appears solid and incorruptible. The hexagon is about five millimeters thick and the two parts of each cufflink are soldered together by a chain of two rings, also made of brass. These cufflinks designed by Prototipo Studio, a jeweled object, could be indestructible.

Prototipo Studio and natural fibers

Prototipo Studio is committed to a production with natural and plant fiber fabrics only: among them, hemp is the main material. Until the mid-20th century, Italy was the world’s leading producer of hemp. The advent of synthetic fibers led to the divestment of natural fibers-which now appear to be the only solution to sustainable textile manufacturing.
