Macramé sweater, Italian wool – production details, yarns, fabrics

The Italian wool low thread count was worked into a tubular knit that produced the first degree of elasticity. Macramé is an ancient technique that originated in the Mediterranean area, probably from seamanship. The traditional and typical pattern of macramé work is modular, a feature that doesn’t come as decorative in this garment.

Macramé sweater – finishing details

This sweater is a unique piece assembled sideways. It took 180 hours of work to make it. The pattern at the armhole changes direction making the garment wider. Because of its elasticity given by both the tubular knitting and the macramé knots, it can be worn by anyone, achieving a different fit from case to case. The handmade weaving technique is by Camilla Calderoli.
